Swedish Selection Announcement: Isak Selected Whereas Viktor Gyokeres Omitted
Viktor Gyokeres moved to the Gunners from Sporting during the offseason
Arsenal forward Viktor Gyokeres was left out from Graham Potter's maiden Swedish national squad, whereas Reds forward Alexander Isak has earned selection
Gyokeres is set for additional examinations in the coming days following concerns he suffered a thigh issue during the Gunners's English top flight win against the Clarets on Saturday
Gyokeres missed Arsenal' European win against Slavia Prague earlier this week
Alexander Isak Makes Comeback
Isak, who hasn't featured since late October due to muscle issues, has been chosen for the World Cup fixtures versus Switzerland (November 15th) and Slovenia (November 18th)
Other England-based Call-ups
- Spurs midfielder Lucas Bergvall, working his way back from a head injury
- Newcastle wide player Anthony Elanga
Both athletes were included in Potter's England-based players named under former multiple English clubs boss Graham Potter
Potter's Appointment
The English manager took over the Swedish federation originally temporarily in late October, less than four weeks after he was dismissed from West Ham
Previous boss the Danish coach was fired after the national team's setback against Kosovo in mid-October, a result which rendered automatic qualification from Group B out of reach
Current Situation
Sweden are currently bottom in their qualifying group having only a single point in their opening four games
Should they fail to claim the runner-up spot, they could still participate in the secondary qualification as a result of their results during the previous Nations League
