Rob Edwards and Gary O'Neil represent the early names in the frame to succeed the former manager as head coach of Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The previous coach was dismissed on the weekend after the squad's 10-match without a victory start to the top-flight season.

And Edwards and O'Neil - both of who have historic links to the team - are part of the names to be evaluated by the Wolves leadership.

The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a possible obstacle to his appointment at Molineux.

However the former Luton head coach - who played over a century of games for the club during his playing career - is considered a strong contender for the vacancy.

The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they start the process of hiring a new manager.

Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a unexpected contender, even though he would be a shock choice considering he was released by Wolves in the previous winter.

The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to pay any compensation.
